Grizel Ferro was born in Santiago de Cuba and has lived in Miami since 1960. Although she has no formal training in the arts, she draws Her inspiration from her passion for travel and the relationship of people to unique places. She often works with her vast collection of photographs that provide her with many valuable details from which to forge a convincing painted reality.
When she retired in 2001, she began her first series of paintings entitled “Memories of Cuba” which is a journey back to her childhood that explores the treasures of her homeland from the province of Pinar del Rio to Oriente.
Her favorite medium is oil. She loves bright colors and uses them profusely in her paintings. She also enjoys working in sepia, accomplishing definitions and shadows with two colors, white and brown.
In 2002 she began showing her work at Cuba Nostalgia, since then she has participated in many collective exhibitions as well as solo shows.
